Executive Director, Associate Vice President for Technology & Venture Commercialization
Keith is the Executive Director and Associate Vice President of TVC. His strong leadership skills come from 30 years of experience as an inventor, entrepreneur and investor. Overseeing operations for TVC, Keith’s passion for innovation has helped countless ideas get the momentum they need to succeed. He has three patents, launched four companies, and helped entrepreneurs raise more than $500 million in investment capital. An avid skier, hiker and traveler, he has visited almost all 50 states, and more than forty countries.

Taylor Bench

Director of Investments
Taylor is the Director of Investments, managing the equity portfolio of startup companies that have spun out of the University of Utah. He also manages the funding for pre-licensed technology development and initial startup investment. Taylor’s experienced work ethic can be traced back to the long of days digging postholes, herding cattle and bailing hay while his father was also teaching him about spreadsheets.

Paul is the Director of Entrepreneurship at TVC and has been involved in helping people with bright ideas build business for over 25 years. As part of an international aid and development program, Paul got his first experience with entrepreneurship after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, helping to identify and support local innovators and entrepreneurs.

Director, Intellectual Property
As the Director of Intellectual Property, Beth oversees the university’s portfolio of patents, copyrights and trademarks. Her ability to establish a solid IP strategy, even at the early stages of an idea, is vital to attracting resources for technology development and investment from commercial partners. An avid participant in short-course triathlons, Beth loves being outdoors, even growing her own tomatoes and other veggies.

Eric S. Paulsen, JD, MBA

Director, Contracts & Compliance
As Director of Contracts and Compliance, Eric oversees all forms of contracts. Whether it’s material transfer or non-disclosure agreements, Eric has it covered. He also helps finalize license agreements and helps with all other contractual relationships. Originally from Wyoming, Eric spent two years in the Philippines serving an LDS mission. He is married with a happy family of four kids.

Dianna serves as the Director of Finance & Accounting for TVC. Among her responsibilities, she ensures royalties are distributed to inventors. She also manages financial statements, management reporting, invoicing, fiduciary contract compliance, budgeting, audit & tax, forecasting and strategic modeling. She’s worked in the technology field for more than 20 years and is a veteran of four startups, two of which she has moved from shoebox accounting to Fortune 200 companies.

Chris is an accomplished Senior Executive with nearly three decades of success across the medical device, biotech, diagnostics, and investment banking industries. He currently serves as Director of Technology Management for TVC. The owner of a patent himself, Chris has a strong record of success leading the commercialization efforts of many companies before joining the team. Most recently from Pennsylvania, Chris now resides in Park City with his family.

Associate Technology Manager
Josh wears a lot of hats as an Associate Technology Manager. He negotiates and drafts TVC contracts and, performs important administrative tasks for the Technology Managers. He combines a strong engineering mind with legal principles, allowing him to speak to inventors, entrepreneurs and investors with confidence. Josh is an avid musician and accomplished soccer player, playing in two Premier Arena Soccer League finals.

He’s a former board member of the Oquirrh Park Fitness & Recreation Center, which you may remember as the Speed Skating Oval for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.

Aaron is a technology manager who is responsible for numerous commercialization activities at the University of Utah. As a Technology Manager, Dean brings over 30 years of industry experience in electrical power, telecommunications, software, equipment manufacturing and infrastructure to the table. He’s had the chance to coach each of his three (now grown) children in football, soccer, basketball, wrestling and softball. Dean is also passionate about music and has played guitar in local bands since the 80’s.

There are so many interesting things about Amy–she’s a semi-professional sword fighter, has her own YouTube channel, lost over 225 pounds over 12 years and is writing her first novel–that you just need to meet her to learn more.

As a Contracts Manager, Richard supports commercialization, research and IP by drafting and negotiating an array of agreements. His legal and scientific expertise helps faculty’s research and IP interests. He enjoys birding, cooking and feeding exotic animals–boa constrictor, rhinoceros, hippopotamus–by hand. Which might be explained by his B.S. and M.S. in Zoology and his Ph.D. in Biology. The legal expertise comes from his J.D.

As Executive in Residence, Phil leverages over 30 years of successful business experience and more than a decade of mentoring inventors and entrepreneurs avoid many of the pitfalls typical to most startups. His expertise improves speed to market, organizational strategy, investor approach and financial viability. Phil is also passionate about warbird aircraft and has owned multiple retired military planes. He’s still waiting to win the lottery and buy a Corsair. Keep an eye out for him at airshows.

Over the last six years, Danuta has helped bring millions of dollars in non-dilutive funding to University startups as a Grant Manager at TVC. Danuta has a diverse professional background ranging from micromachining to teaching medical physics to business.
